Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event

2013 EVENT RESULTS

We are pleased to report that the 2012 Household Hazardous Waste Day held on October 13, 2012 at Johns Manville’s Carpenter Road plant was a resounding SUCCESS!!!

We unloaded a total of 213 vehicles (an 18% increase from the previous year), received a total of 25,631 lbs. Of household ‘hazardous’ waste (a 2% drop from the previous year), and sent 16,820 lbs. of waste to the landfill (a 23% increase).  While the amount of ‘hazardous’ waste decreased slightly, the fact that we have a sizeable increase in the number of vehicles and the amount of waste sent to the landfill leads me to believe that this event continues to provide a valuable service to the surrounding communities.

A hearty ‘Thank You’ goes to the sponsors of this event: Johns Manville in Defiance, Lafarge Corporation of Paulding, ERG of Bowling Green, Defiance College, and Scrap Metal for Kids and the Defiance County Environmental Services.

I extend a special “Thanks” to the Defiance College Men’s Baseball Team, whose members provided the manual labor for unloading, opening and disposing of the waste that was dropped off.

Johns Manville’s Defiance, OH complex remains committed to this community and its citizens and we look forward to hosting another event next year.
