OPENING:
The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 3, 2002, in the Conference Room of the Hicksville Village Council, Hicksville, Ohio, by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

The minutes of the December 31 meeting were unanimously accepted and approved.

Jean Ziegler, Defiance County Clerk of Courts, submitted her November report. The following vehicles were sold: 182 new cars, 1,260 used cars, 89 new trucks, 467 used trucks, 51 vans and 19 motorcycles. A total of $482,439.25 was credited to the General Fund.
Jane Tadsen, County Recorder, submitted her December report noting 146 deed transfers, 555 mortgages and 476 releases were handled by her office. Total credited to the General Fund was $35,322.50.
Commissioners were informed that Rick Hall, who had been farming the County land, was retiring as of December 31st. Mr. Hall cash-farmed the land for the last five years and has done an excellent job. A Mr. John Rethmel and Mr. Phil Hornish have expressed an interest in farming this land; the County will be requesting bids in February.
The Wastewater Operations Director employment advertisement was reviewed and several changes were made. The ad will be run in the Crescent and the Hicksville News Tribune beginning Sunday.
Commissioners also reviewed the easements and appraisal values necessary for the completion of the Express Sewer on the following properties: Farmer’s and Merchant’s Bank, Meijer’s, Ottawa River Beagle Club, Party House and the Patel Brothers Motels. Appraisal total is $19,170.00
Commissioners accepted the appraisal amounts and a letter would be sent to Merlin Butler, Poggemeyer Design Group, to proceed with acquiring the easements.
8:30 a.m. The early morning portion of the meeting was spent in Hicksville in the Village Council Room. After reviewing and passing the above resolutions, Commissioners left at approximately 9:45 a.m. to return to Defiance. Commissioners Nicely and Kime went to the Evergreen Lane Office Complex to look at the Wastewater Operations truck before returning to the office.
It was an extremely light agenda day – no other meetings were scheduled. However, Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, stopped in briefly to discuss various projects.
