DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 5, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, January 5, 2006.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The

The Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners met with Mayor Haver of Hicksville and Fire Chief Ellwood to review different agencies for possible grant funding for a portion of the construction of a fire department building.  The Commissioners will continue to work with the Mayor and Council on this project.

 

OSU Extension is offering a New Start for Financial Success Program.  This is a 2 hour course which provides face-to-face interaction and instruction focused on enhancing skills in personal finance.  New Start covers the financial topics required by the Bankruptcy Abuse and Prevention Act of 2005.  New Start instructors are Ohio State University Extension Family and Consumer Sciences professionals who have an average of 15 years experience teaching personal finances.  Information on cost and locations can be obtained by contacting Nancy Hudson, CFCS Extension Center Specialist, Family Resource Management at 330-263-3799.  Advance registration is required at the site you plan to attend.

Becky Wagner reported to the Commissioners that the Records Center is in the process of gathering information on imaging for the County and have talked to various counties and to different vendors to see how other agencies are dealing with document storage.

 

Also reported, Heartsaver AED is being offered to Defiance County employees by the Defiance County Safety Committee in conjunction with Defiance County General Health District.  One individual from each county department will be trained on CPR and is being offered on Monday, January 30, 2006 from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.   A second class is being offered the same day from 1:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.  Information will be sent to the employees on January 12th.

 

Discussed the modification of space in the Sheriff’s Department for additional room.

 

The Commissioners hired Michael Moats for the position of Tax Map Drafter to replace Deb Hubbard who resigned in December 2005.
