The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

The Commissioners met with Cecilia Parsons, Defiance County Recorder, to discuss the department’s budget.  The Recorder’s Office, since June 2009, has made the indexes available on-line.  At this time the documents cannot be viewed but the indexes since 1994 are available and there is no cost to use this website.  A copy of the document is available by coming to the Recorder’s Office or calling and requesting a document by mailed or faxed.  There is a cost for the copy and/or faxing of the document.  The website can be accessed by going to www.landaccess.com or going to www.defiance-county.com and proceeding to the Recorder’s section.

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to provide an update.  The department processed approximately 438 juvenile cases, reviewed approximately 394 criminal cases, handled 205 foreclosures and approximately 13 criminal appeals.

The Defiance County General Health District recently provided the Commissioners with the  semi-annual report of the Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps program for the second half of 2009.  In the second half of 2009, 111 children were enrolled on the BCMH program.  Defiance County General Health District received $14,600 in payment from the Ohio Department of Health BCMH program.  This money partially fund the time and resources BCMH nurses utilize assisting families with their needs.

The Bureau for Children with Medical Handicaps assists families whose children have a suspected or diagnosed medical problem.  A public health nurse at the health department is assigned to each client enrolled into the BCMH program.  Dealing with the medical community can be a frightening and overwhelming experience.  A public health nurse’s role is to ease the family’s journey by assisting the family with medical referrals, navigating medical bills and determining the overall needs of a family.  The public health nurse’s involvement with the family is as involved as the family requests.
