DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 14, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 14, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update.  Laura provided the following department updates:

 

            Records Center:  In 2009, the staff filled 1,678 records requests.  Since the implementation in January 2009, there have been 22,859 images scanned and indexed.

 

            Maintenance:  Replaced filters in all air handles in County buildings and winterized hydrants at Defiance County East.

 

            Job & Family Services:  For Defiance County between July 2008 and June 2009, a total of $40,084,710 was issued to residents for Medicaid, Food Stamps and OWF programs.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Tina reported that 80 people enjoyed the Rest and Recuperation Banquet.  During 2009, there were a total of 86, 543 meals (congregate, home delivered and PASSPORT), 13,379 transports and 977 activities provided.

 

Kim Moss, Defiance County Health Commissioner, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

The Commissioners attended the Preconstruction Meeting for the Historic Jail Project.

 

The Commissioners’ Office will be closed on Monday, January 18, 2010 in observance of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
