DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 19, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, January 19, 2006.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Thomas L. Kime.  Also present were Commissioners Richard L. Cromwell and Otto L. Nicely; Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session - The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

9:30 A.M.     Becky Wagner, County Administrator, submitted her report to the Commissioners.  Becky reported that she attended the Defiance County Safety Committee meeting held on January 17, 2006.  The County Safety Plan has been approved by the Commissioners and will be presented to the Department Heads and Elected Officials at the Elected Officials luncheon being held on January 31, 2006.  Becky also reported that county employees are registering for CPR training.  CPR training is being offered to Defiance County employees by the Defiance County Safety Committee in conjunction with Defiance County General Health District.  The class is being offered on January 30, 2006.  The deadline for registration is January 19th.  Also reported, the next Defiance County Family & Children First Council meeting will be held February 24, 2006 at 8:30 a.m. at EMA.

 

10:30 A.M.    Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden, presented his departmental update with the Commissioners.  Randy reported that he received and investigated 135 complaints; 19 dogs were taken to the shelter; issued 15 citations and 1,160 pounds of animals was taken to the landfill.  Randy also reported that 2,493 miles were driven for the month.

 

11:00 A.M.    The Commissioners held a Public Hearing for the purpose of considering the adoption of county-wide access management regulations proposed by the County Engineer’s office.  These Access Management Regulations are adopted for the purpose of promoting traffic safety and efficiency, maintaining proper traffic capacity and traffic flow of county and township roadways, reducing vehicular collision frequency, minimizing the future expenditure of public revenues, and improving the design and location of access connections to county and township roads while at the same time providing necessary and reasonable ingress and egress to properties along those roads.  A Second Public Hearing will be held on Thursday, January 26, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio.

 

11:15 A.M.    Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, came in to discuss legal issues with the Board of Commissioners.
