COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
THURSDAY, JANUARY 21, 2010
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 21, 2010 in the Conference Room in the
Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512. Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the
meeting to order. Also present were
Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie
Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners appointed Edwin Gehring as Defiance County’s 2010
Apiary Inspector.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update.
Laura provided an
update on the Defiance County Prescription Drug Discount Card Program. In 2009, the Defiance County Prescription Drug
Discount Card Program, in association with NACo, had 3,821 Defiance County
prescriptions filled for a savings of approximately $44,000.00 for Defiance
County residents. A total of 2,174
residents used the card in 2009. The
submitted retail price of these prescriptions totaled approximately
$201,785.00; the percentage of price savings equaled 21.83%.
Laura received
notification from Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety Director, that Defiance
County received a refund check from the Bureau of Workers’ Compensation for
$6,657.05. The refund was received
because the County’s claims were better than BWC expected.
Randy Vogel,
Defiance County Dog Warden, met with the Commissioners for his monthly update. Randy informed the Board that during
December, 2009 there were 97 calls investigated, resulting in 23 dogs taken to
the shelter, 23 warnings issued and 14 court citations. There were 2, 755 miles driven and $173.50
received in court fines. Randy also
provided his report for calendar year 2009:
1,494 calls investigated, 283 dogs taken to the shelter, 3,362 personal
contacts, 292 warnings issued and 286 citations. During 2009, there were 7,502 dog tags issued;
compared to 7,330 dog tags issued in 2008.
Greg Reinhart,
Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners for his
monthly update. Greg reported the
following work being completed: greased and oiled all plants and pump stations,
fixed filter blower on Middle Gordon Creek, worked on Middle Gordon Creek
skimmer, sewer jetted Auglaize Pines, worked on Evansport return sludge lines,
pumped sludge at Belden’s, fixed sink hole on SR 66 and pulled and cleaned EMA
pump.
Danielle Nameth,
Community Liaison for Northwest Ohio for Senator Sherrod Brown, met with the
Commissioners to discuss project Senator Brown is currently working on.
The Commissioners
attended the Annual Township Trustee & Elected Officials’ Meeting at the
Defiance County EMA Building.
The Commissioners received the Monthly Activity Report from Amy
Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts, for the month of December,
2009. Ms. Galbraith reported collecting
legal fees of $9,849.60 and title fees of $15,046.20. Ms. Galbraith also reports deposits for the
following: legal fees - $77,518.17 and title fees - $261,538.77. The sales and use and dealers’ tax collected
was $237,360.35 and watercraft tax collected was $2,062.78. The number of titles issued was 1,202; number
of notation of liens was 297; and number of inspections was 54.
