MONDAY, JANUARY 22, 2007
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met in regular session on Monday, January 22, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., in the
Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners,
500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.
Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L.
Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner,
County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz,
Deputy Clerk.
General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various
resolutions and documents for approval.
The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings,
and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.
Herb Delventhol came in to discuss signage
for the canoe launch sites. Herb showed
photos of numerous signs that he has completed and are being utilized at
several locations throughout the county.
The signs will be put up at the Schick Road canoe launch site and the
canoe launch site at the old Dey
Road Bridge
location.
Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter came in for his weekly update. Warren
presented the job cost accounting report for the Vine Street project located 0.30 miles
East of US 127. The project consisted of
constructing GRS abutment walls with county precast concrete beams. Total cost of construction was $85,792.82.
Warren also brought in
the annual bridge inspections books for the Commissioners to review. Warren
indicated his department inspects more than 230 bridges over a 10’ span on a
yearly basis.
Warren also discussed
his desire to utilize GovDeals Internet Auction Site to sell a Chevy S-10 truck
currently used by the County Highway Department. House Bill 226 of the 124th General
Assembly, became effective on January 26th, 2002 and authorizes a
board of county commissioners to dispose of unneeded, obsolete or unfit
personal property through the use of an internet auction.
Lynn Lantz from Auglaize Village
came in to discuss maintenance needs. Lynn reviewed various
projects that were done this past year.
Mr. Lantz discussed the addition of the new siding on the post office
and the work that was done on the bell tower and the front siding of the
school. The roof at the depot was also
replaced.
Mr. Lantz stated work needed to be done on
the electrical at the campsite as well as
floor work at Farm location #2.
The Commissioners encouraged Mr. Lantz to
work closely with Cindy Mack of the Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau to
promote and advertise upcoming events at Auglaize Village.
The Commissioners also advised Mr. Lantz to
come back in to meet with the Board in either late April or early May to update
the Board on what projects they have been working on.
Sheriff Westrick, Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter &
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, Russ Herman came in to discuss the congestion created
at Hire Road Railroad Crossing when trains are switching tracks.
After discussion, the Board will schedule a
meeting at a later date with the CSX Division Superintendent to discuss a
possible remedy for the problem.
Ted Penner, Noble Township Trustee came in to discuss sealing the
parking lot at the Defiance County Emergency Management location. The Commissioners discussed talking with the
County Engineers Office to see if the parking lot could be put on their crack
seal program. The lot will need to be
inspected by the Engineer’s Office to determine what will need to be done.
