DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio, 43512, on Thursday, January 23, 2003.  Present at today’s meeting were:  Commissioners Tom Kime, Otto Nicely and Rich Cromwell; County Administrator Becky Wagner; Clerk Alison Grimes and Deputy Clerk Joan Brown. 

 

8:30 a.m.  General Session – Commissioners reviewed the day’s agenda and agenda items, the calendar of events, signed various resolutions presented by the Clerk and reviewed information each received at various meetings they attended last week.    

 

Tim Houck had submitted his December 2002 Landfill District Fee Pay-In report which noted the following:

 

            In-District tonnage received:                        4,701.48

            Out-of-District tonnage received:                     72.35

            Out-of-State tonnage received:                        38.36

 

            Total                                                                4,812.19

 

The total fee amount payable to the Solid Waste District for December, 02 is $4,922.20

 

9:30 a.m.        Becky Wagner, County Operations Manager/Administrator, presented her weekly update.  The County is advertising for bids for a new van.  Bids are scheduled to be opened Monday, February 24 at 9:00 a.m. 

 

Becky and Tim Houck, Environmental Services, began interviews for the position of Maintenance Supervisor yesterday and will continue today.  A recommendation should be forthcoming sometime next week.  

 

An aerial photograph of the Landfill will be taken by Mannik and Smith Group.  As soon as it is completed, Tim Houck, Landfill Manager, will get a copy to the Commissioners.

 

Commissioners gave their approval to upgrade some computer equipment in several offices.  Bob Arend, County Computer Consultant, will perform the work.  

 

10:30 a.m.      Karen Seigman and Kelly Worline, Tourism Bureau and Otto Meyer and Herb Retcher, Township Trustee Association, met to review Bicentennial information and update the Board on upcoming events.  The Commissioners and the Township Association offered services and financial assistance to promote various events.  Some of the events covered were:

 

Ø      March 2                     Bicentennial State Birthday Celebration, Northtowne Mall Center Court2:00 to 3:00 p.m.

 

Ø      April 27                      Historic Homes Victorian Tea and Style Show, St. John’s Lutheran Church2:00 p.m.  Call 419.782.0918 for ticket information.

 

 

Ø      May 17 & 18             Fort Defiance Native American Gathering, behind Northtowne Mall.

 

Ø      June 14 & 15            Defiance County Bell Casting, Northtowne Mall front parking lot.

1:00 p.m.  Commissioners left to attend a Planning Commission meeting at Maumee Valley Planning.
