DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 25, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, January 25, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

County Administrator Becky Wagner submitted her report to the Board.  Becky reported meeting with the Partnerships for Success Core Team to review current needs assessments.  The Resource Assessment committee will be meeting on February 8 to determine where their current focus should be.

 

Becky also reported that is time for the annual “Get Connected, Get Answers” training.  The purpose of this training is to educate county employees and agencies on where to direct questions from the public and ensure those persons are being transferred to the correct agency or/ or given the correct information.

 

Becky also discussed a program called “Go Red for Women” which is being promoted by the Cardiovascular Health Project staff of the Defiance County Health Department.  The staff is asking that everyone wear red on February 2, 2007.  The purpose of the project is to promote awareness that cardiovascular disease has no deferential regard for gender and is the number one killer of women, claiming more than 500,000 lives each year. 

 

The Defiance County Health Department is providing information on heart disease and is encouraging all of Defiance County to participate in National Wear Red Day on Friday, February 2, 2007.  For more information, please call Deb Gilgenbach at the Defiance County General Health District at 419.784.3818 or email dgilgenbach@defiance-county.com.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Manager submitted his monthly report to the Board.  Tim reported the 2006 annual sales summary for the year was $3,246,600.

 

Tim also reported the annual tons total for the year was 116,918, the annual cubic yards total was 359,650, Leachate monthly gallon totals was 895,570 and the Hicksville Transfer Station had a total income of $12,500.

 

Tim also reported the 2005 & 2006 final cover construction is complete and certified.

 

The Commissioners, along with Ken Maag from Poggemeyer Design Group met with landowners, Jerry Liska, Westrick Family Farm L. L. C. and First Federal Bank of the Midwest to discuss the Elliott Road Water & Sewer project.  The Commissioners reviewed the petition along with a map of the area, assessment list and current costs for the project.
