COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The
Board of
Russ
Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an
update on various pending legal matters.
The
Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various
resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Warren Schlatter, Defiance
County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update.
Julie Voll and Beth Foremen
met with the Commissioners to provide an update for the Family & Children
First/Help Me Grow department. Julie
reported that Defiance County was a recipient of an Ohio Family & Children First
Council Association grant to receive data equipment. Julie also reported that a new Wraparound
Service Coordinator was hired. Beth
reported the following caseloads for December 2009: 31 at-risk, 46 Part C;
compared to 54 at-risk and 43 Part C in December 2008. The decline in at-risk is due to the new
eligibility requirements.
Free Early Childhood
Screenings are being held on February 22, 2010 at Grace United Methodist Church
in Hicksville and on March 1, 2010 at Zion’s Lutheran Church in Defiance. If you have concerns or questions about your
child’s growth and development call to schedule an appointment for one of the
screening dates. For Defiance

Hicksville appointments call 419-542-7475.
The Early Childhood Screenings are in cooperation with Defiance County
School Districts. All children birth
through age four, residing in Defiance County are welcome to attend to be
screened in the following areas: vision, hearing, personal & social skills,
problem solving abilities, speech & language skills, small & large
muscle movements.
The Commissioners met with
Gary Cates and Kathy Boff, Defiance Regional Medical Center, and Sally King to
discuss the Sarah’s House lease.
The Commissioners attended
the Four County Solid Waste District Board of Director’s meeting at Williams
County.
The Commissioners held the
continued public hearing regarding the vacation of a portion of Blacker Road
with Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, and Farmer Township Trustees,
Dan Vermillion, Larry Mavis and Jim Donze in
attendance. The Commissioners approved
vacating the east portion of Blacker Road, leaving an area for a turnaround, as
presented by Warren Schlatter.
Karen
Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met
with the Commissioners for a conference call with Andy Brossart, Fifth Third
Bank to discuss County bonding.
