DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, JANUARY 26, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, January 26, 2006.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Thomas L. Kime.  Also present were Commissioners Richard L. Cromwell and Otto L. Nicely; Becky Wagner, County Administrator, Lyla Gurwell, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

8:30 A.M.     General Session - The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners reappointed members to the Defiance County Planning Commission.  Those members included Jim Harris, Noble Township Trustee.  Jim’s term expires in January of 2009.  Robert Armstrong, City of Defiance Mayor.  Mayor Armstrong’s term expires in January 2009 and Roger Mohr, Realtor.  Roger’s term also expires in January of 2009.  Jeff Leonard was appointed alternate for Mayor Armstrong.

 

Also received a report from Jane Tadsen, Defiance County Recorder regarding the filing fee for zoning amendments.  The fee is no $20.00 for the first page and $8.00 for each page thereafter.

 

9:30 A.M.     Becky Wagner, County Administrator, submitted her report to the Commissioners. 

 

Becky reported that new evacuation signs have been properly placed in the Defiance County East building.

 

Also reported that the Sheriff submitted a letter indicating that his office will need to purchase four (4) new vehicles to replace existing cruisers with high mileage.  The old vehicles will be sold at auction.

 

A wall was taken out to expand the offices at the Sheriff’s Department.  Sheriff Westrick indicated that the renovations are now complete and felt everything turned out very well.

 

10:00 A.M.    Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter opened bids for the Elliott Road project.  Those submitting bids were as follows:

10:30 A.M.    Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Center Director came in to discuss the Senior Center Budget.  Tina asked for line item changes to the budget based on Area Office on Aging 2006 grant awards.

 

Tina is working with the activities manager to develop several innovative Alzheimer’s disease educational opportunities for the community.

 

11:00 A.M.    A second Access Management Hearing was held to consider the adoption of county-wide access management regulations proposed by the County Engineer’s office.  These Access Management Regulations are adopted for the purpose of promoting traffic safety and efficiency, maintaining proper traffic capacity and traffic flow of county and township roadways, reducing vehicular collision frequency, minimizing the future expenditure of public revenues, and improving the design and location of access connections to county and township roads while at the same time providing necessary and reasonable ingress and egress to properties along those roads. 

 

The Commissioner’s will take action on the adoption of the revised regulations next week.

 

11: 30 A.M.   Dennis Miller, Maumee Valley Planning Director came in to discuss the R & L Enterprise Industrial Park project.  The Commissioners signed a change order (increase) on the original contract price.

 

Also discussed the passing of a resolution for the completion of the purchase of the Sanitary Pump Station and Force Main Constructed under Phase 1 of the R & L Enterprise Industrial Park Development.  This project is funded in part by the Ohio Department of Development
