NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio, 43512,
on Monday, January 27, 2003. Present at today’s meeting were: Commissioners Tom Kime, Otto Nicely and Rich
Cromwell; County Administrator Becky Wagner;
Clerk Alison Grimes and Deputy Clerk Joan Brown.
8:30 a.m. Russ Herman, County Chief Assistant
Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to review various
documents/contracts pending approval at his office.
9:00 a.m. General Session – Commissioners reviewed
the day’s agenda and agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and the calendar
of events, signed various resolutions presented by the Clerk and reviewed
information each received at various meetings they attended last week.
10:00 a.m. Gaylon Davis, Defiance County Engineer,
met with the Commissioners to present his weekly update. He submitted information regarding the
County’s underground fuel tanks.
Apparently, a 10,000 gallon tank at the Airport is not used regularly
and there is a time limit for no activity.
The Airport will be contacted regarding its usage of the tank before
usage permits and insurance bonds are renewed.
Gaylon updated the Commissioners on county snow
removal. More snow is expected tonight
and tomorrow, and his department is prepared for more plowing.
The Board updated Gaylon on a meeting with the City
regarding Elliott Road and
informed him that the City is not interested in pursuing the project at this
time.
11:00 a.m. Diane Mayer, Tina Hiler and Joe Coressel,
Senior Services Center, presented an update for the Commissioners. The staff attended a DRIVE (Passenger
Assistance) Training in Toledo
Tuesday, January 21st. The
Senior Services Center Advisory board met Wednesday, January 22nd to
review forms and receive the year-end report.
Also, various staff and volunteers were recently trained regarding
proper procedures when working with CCNO inmates.
The Board reviewed and approved several travel requests for
the Senior Services
Center – one to Strongsville,
Ohio on February 4 to tour a community
center and one for the OASC (Ohio Association of Senior Centers) Spring Conference,
April 27 - 29 at Deer Creek.
Joe Coressel noted that over 82,000 meals were delivered
last year; 17,804 meals were served at the Senior
Services Center;
6,547 transportation trips were made and a total of 141,656 miles were logged
on their vehicles for various trips/transportations, etc. Joe also submitted a list of the Center’s
vehicles and the odometer reading on each.
1:30 p.m. Commissioners traveled to Williams
County for a Four County Solid
Waste District meeting with Williams, Fulton and Paulding County
Commissioners.
2:15 p.m. After the Solid Waste meeting, Williams,
Defiance and Paulding County
Commissioners remained to discuss Workforce Development issues. Also attending this meeting were Susan
Jackson and Sally Gross, Williams and Defiance
and Paulding County Job and Family Service Directors, respectively.
