DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 28, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners signed contracts with Charles Construction Services for $1,563,900.00 and Highland Center Electric for $285,000.00 for the Historic Jail Project.  The Commissioners signed a contract with the Sanborn Map Company for $62,000.00 for the Spring 2010 Defiance County Aerial Photography. 

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update.  Laura provided an update on various County projects.

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the commissioners for his monthly update.  Tim reported $198,272.20 in sales for the month of December, 2009 compared to $221,775.29 during December, 2008.  The landfill collected 6,063.79 tons and 19,656 cubic yards during December.  Environmental Services completed the following during 2009: Christmas tree recycling in the City by Werlor, “City Park Clean Up Day”, Great America State Roadway Clean Up Day, educational programs to 2nd and 4th graders, 2009 Great American Clean Up, appliance round up, Maumee River sweep, America Recycles Day, and Johns Manville and LaFarge household hazardous waste collection.  The current recycling programs include: Hicksville transfer station is on winter hours one time per month through March, re-chargeable battery recycling program at Radio Shack in the mall and Hicksville, Arps Hardware in Defiance, and Sears in the mall, twelve monthly County manned recycling sites cover 16 days each month, and cell phone recycling sending phones to Soldiers Cell Phone Program. 

 

The Commissioners will attend the Leadership Luncheon on High Speed Rail on Friday, January 29, 2010.
