DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio, 43512, on Monday, February 3, 2003.  Present at today’s meeting were:  Commissioners Tom Kime, Otto Nicely and Rich Cromwell; and Deputy Clerk Joan Brown. 

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners reviewed the day’s agenda and agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and the calendar of events, signed various resolutions presented by the Deputy Clerk and reviewed information each received at various meetings they attended last week.    

 

10:00 a.m.      Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, met with the Commissioners to open bids for Crushed Aggregate and Bituminous Materials.  Also attending the meeting were:  John DuBois, Central Oil Asphalt; John McVicher, Jr., Bituminous Products Co.; Steve Pace, Asphalt Materials.  

 

Bids were received for the following:

 

CRUSHED AGGREGATE

           

Bids for Crushed Aggregate were received from Hanson of Paulding, OH; StoneCo., Inc., of Oakwood, OH; Stafford Gravel of Edgerton, OH; and Stansley of Sylvania, OH.  

 

BITUMINOUS MATERIAL

 

Bids for Bituminous Materials were received from Asphalt Material of Oregon, OH; Central Oil Asphalt of Weston, OH; and Bituminous Products of Toledo, OH.  

 

The bids were accepted as presented.  The Engineer’s office will review the bids and return with a recommendation later this week. 

 

11:00 a.m.      Jim Harris, Soil and Water Conservation District Administrator, met with the Commissioners for a Public Hearing regarding the placing of Cleaves Tile on Ditch Maintenance.  Cleaves Tile is located in Highland Township by Blanchard Road.  The County Engineer was in agreement and no objections were received from property owners.  Commissioners approved placing Cleaves Tile on Ditch Maintenance.  

 

At 11:30 a.m., Commissioners left for Napoleon where they would attend a Legislative briefing at Peppermill’s Restaurant.

 

3:00 p.m.        Commissioners and Elected Officials Gaylon Davis, County Engineer; Joseph Schmenk, Common Pleas Court Judge; Stephen Ruyle, Probate/Juvenile Court Judge; Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts; Jane Tadsen, Recorder; Karen Tubbs, Treasurer; David Westrick, Sheriff; Jeffrey Strausbaugh, Prosecutor; and Marlene Goodwin, Auditor met with the Commissioners for a facilities update.  Also attending was Russell Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney.

 

At 3:05 p.m., Commissioners entered EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding Land Acquisition [ORC 121.22 (G) (2)].

 

 

EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 4:04 p.m.

 

 

 

Today’s meeting ended at 4:07 p.m.
