DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 04, 2010 in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners and presented her report to the Commissioners.  Laura provided various project updates and provided the following department updates:

            Family & Children First Council: Reported that they are the recipients of the Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant in the amount of $62,019.06.  The grant was written to focus on training and coaching to ensure successful implementation and evaluation of a High Fidelity Wraparound program that targets multi-need youths with past or present juvenile justice involvement.  Focus areas might include court culture, poverty and cultural sensitivity training. 

            Senior Center: Reported that the Senior Services will be working with AARP for tax assistance.  Seniors can call the Defiance Center at 419-782-3233 to set up an appointment time and date.  Defiance County Senior Center will be part of the 98.1 Information Expo at the Northtowne Mall on February 12 and 13, 2010.

            Dog Warden: Reported that last week the office handled 16 complaints on Monday and 11 complaints on Tuesday. 

 

Cindy Mack, Defiance Development & Visitors Bureau, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on items going on at the Visitors Bureau and on Auglaize Village.

 

Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, met with the Commissioners to provide an update on the Auglaize Sewer Project. 

 

Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, and Andy Brossart, Fifth Third Bank, met with the Commissioners to discuss County bonding. 

 

Fifth Third Securities, Inc. will be offering for sale, the Defiance County, Ohio Series 2010

$2,345,000.00 Various Purpose LTGO Refunding Bonds on February 10th, 2010.  Defiance County residents will have access to purchase these bonds on the day of pricing, February 10th, 2010. Prior to the pricing date, interested investors will need to contact the below listed Fifth Third Securities Representative. Interested investors will need to meet with a licensed Fifth Third Securities Representative and open an investment account in order to purchase these bonds before February 10th.  The Bonds are rated A3 by Moody’s Investor Services and may also be covered with Bond Insurance. The maturity on the bonds will range from 2010 to 2024 and will be offered in increments of $5,000.00.  The local investment representative contact at Fifth Third Securities is Jerid Friar, 419-353-7078.

 

The Commissioners attended the Department of Justice Meeting and the Welcome Reception for the New General Motors Plant Manager.
