DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Lyla Gurwell, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

The Commissioners approved the resolution approving the plans, specifications, estimates of cost and tentative assessment for, and declaring the necessity of, constructing the Elliott Road Waterline Improvement Project to provide service to properties within the Defiance County Sewer District.  The Board also passed a resolution determining to proceed with the construction of the Elliott Road Waterline Improvement Project to provide service to properties within the Defiance County Sewer District.

The Board also approved a resolution approving the plans, specifications, estimates of cost and tentative assessment for, and declaring the necessity of, constructing the Elliott Road sanitary sewer improvement project to provide service to properties within the Defiance County Sewer District.  Also approved was the resolution determining to proceed with the construction of the Elliott Road Sanitary Sewer Improvement Project to provide service to properties within the defiance county sewer district.

Defiance County Engineer    Warren Schlatter came in for his weekly update.  Warren brought in the Annual County Highway System Mileage Report.  The certified mileage for 2006 was 326.58 miles.  This mileage represents all roadway related activity within Defiance County.

Warren also mentioned that as of January 1, 2007, Jeff Timbrook is the Operations Deputy at the Defiance County Highway Garage.  Warren also indicated there are no immediate plans to acquire an Assistant Operations Deputy.

Bob Arend of Arend Enterprises came in to open bids for the new central telephone system.  The Commissioners received two bids for this project.  Bob Arend submitted an estimate of $59,000.00.  One bid was from Koenig Security – Paulding, OH for $57,721.00 and the second bid was from New Wave Technology, Inc – Coldwater, MI for $68,673.50.  The Commissioners will take the bids under advisement and award the bid at a later date.

Morris Murray, Director of Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency came in to discuss two contracts.  One with the Clerk of Courts for the purpose of coordinating services and making all reasonable efforts to organize with other contractors to establish a cooperative, comprehensive county plan for the effective enforcement of child support.  Morris also discussed the contract agreement between Defiance County Child Support and Defiance County Common Pleas Court.  This contract reflects payment for our magistrates, as well as probation
