NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville, Ohio on Thursday, February 6, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Thomas Kime, Commissioner; Otto Nicely, Commissioner; and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.  Also present at the Hicksville session was Peter Greer, Hicksville News-Tribune correspondent.

 

General Session – Commissioners signed various resolutions, reviewed the day’s agenda and agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and the calendar of events.  At 9:15 a.m. Commissioners and staff began the return trip to Defiance where the meeting continued.   

 

Commissioners discussed the potential of the new electronic voting machines and were advised of the Northwest Ohio Boards of Election District Meeting scheduled for March 25 in Bowling Green.  

 

Commissioners met with Greg Reinhart, Director of Wastewater Operations, and reviewed quotes to run a camera through a 2800’ section of the sewer line south of Brunersburg.  The work was awarded to Adkins, Inc.

 

At 10:00 a.m., Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk-Financial, reviewed information about the HIPPA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act) and express sewer reports with the Commissioners.   

 

At 11:00 a.m., Lisa Karcher, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with Commissioners for the First Public Hearing for the Formula Program.   Also in attendance were:  Kent Miller, Village of Hicksville Administrator; Charles Brenner, Mayor of Village of Ney; Loren Plassman, Jewell Community Center; and Jim Speiser, Delaware Township Trustee.   Information was reviewed for the various FY 2003 Community Development Block Grant Programs.  Applications are due April 18, 2003.  For more information, contact the Maumee Valley Planning Organization at 419-784-3882.   

 

At 1:30 p.m., Commissioners and Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, met with Spencer Wendelin to review the Maumee and Western Railroad.
