DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 11, 2008

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 11, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and James E. Harris, Jr., Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, opened bids for 2008 Crushed Aggregate. Four (4) bids were submitted. Those submitting bids were: Custar Stone Co., Napoleon, Stafford Gravel, Edgerton, Stoneco, Inc. Auglaize Quarry, Oakwood, and Stoneco, Inc. Scott Quarry, Convoy, Ohio. The bids were taken under advisement and will be awarded at a later date.

 

Julie Rittenhouse, Public Safety Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update. Julie advised that she has received a few Cost Recovery claims in from various municipalities that helped with the American Ag Fuels explosion.

 

Julie stated that there were ninety-nine (99) homes that were affected by the flood waters, ten of these out in the County. Preliminary damage assessments have been completed and submitted to the State.

 

Tom Vance, Village of Ney Mayor, and Melinda Warner, Poggemeyer Design Group, met with the Commissioners to discuss Ney’s sewer project and funds to help pay for it. Tom advised that the most recent estimate for the project is $3.5 million and the Village is looking for any additional funds/grant monies they can find to help finance the project.

 

Kevin Hancock, Ditch Maintenance Supervisor, and various landowners met with the Commissioners for a public hearing on the Hook Group Watershed project. Kevin advised that he received an objection from one of the landowners so the project can not be put under ditch maintenance.

 

Paulding County Commissioners Ed Straley, Tony Burkley and Martin Harmon met with the Commissioners to discuss the Auglaize Sewer Project. The Commissioners then entered into Executive Session for discussions with legal counsel for possible pending litigation and invited Paulding County Commissioners to sit in on the Executive Session. Executive Session ended with no decision being made.
