DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 22, 2010

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, February 22, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Otto L. Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecutor, and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, met with the Commissioners for an update on various pending legal matters.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners awarded the bids for the Auglaize River Sewers Project as follows: Contract A (Lagoon & Pump Stations) – Fechko Excavating, Inc.  $2,804,762.77; Contract B (Sanitary Sewers) – Underground Utilities, Inc. $2,725,407.00.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update. 

 

Greg Reinhart, Defiance County Wastewater Operations, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Greg reported the following being completed during January: replaced a fuse on the Express sewer, cleaned the check valves at EMA, changed belt on Belden’s blower, pulled and cleaned pump at EMA.   Billed out in January: $47,826.05, collected: $45,988.12 and expenses: $38,349.60.

 

Jack Graf, Defiance County Job & Family Services, met with the Commissioners to provide an update for the department.  A report was provided for department activities during the 2009 calendar year.  The average monthly uses of the Job Center’s Resource Room were 699.  The average monthly food stamp cases were 1,949.  This served an average of 4,798 individuals with a cost of an average $571,235.00.  There were 26 adult protective services complaints and 630 child abuse/neglect reports received.

 

Tom Wilson, Peck, Shaffer & Williams, LLP, Karen Tubbs, Defiance County Treasurer, and Marlene Goodwin, Defiance County Auditor, met with the Commissioners to sign the County Various Purpose Improvement Refunding Bonds in the amount of $2,325,000.

 

Judge Strausbaugh, Defiance County Probate/Juvenile Court, met with the Commissioners to discuss a new filing system for the office.

 

Chad Zachrich, Simplex-Grinnell, met with the Commissioners to review building security options.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Senior Center Renovations Project.

 

The Commissioners attended the Public Informational Meeting/Viewing for the Stover Ditch and the Public Hearing for the Krause Ditch.
