NEWS RELEASE

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board, 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, February 27, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Operations Manager; Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.   

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session –  Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

Commissioners awarded the bid for a new county van to Mark Moats Ford.  The current van will be traded in for the new vehicle.  Moats’ bid was for a Ford Windstar SEL for a cost of $8,980, with trade-in.  A bid was also received from Beckman Chevrolet for a Chevy Venture LT for a trade-in price of $11,000.

 

At 8:50 a.m., Commissioner Cromwell left to attend CPR training at the Public Safety Services facility.

 

10:00 a.m.      Becky Wagner, Administrator, presented her weekly update at this time and noted the following:  The Senior Services Center’s new Chef’s Express home delivery meal truck is in production and should be completed and delivered by the second week in March.

 

Ohio Severe Weather Awareness Week is March 23rd through the 29th.  More information can be obtained by contacting Mark or Julie at the Public Safety Services facility.

 

A HIPAA meeting has been scheduled for Friday, February 28 at 2:00 p.m.

 

Commissioner Nicely left at 9:40 a.m. to attend a meeting.

 

10:30 a.m.      Melinda Page and Rick Weaver, Poggemeyer Design Group and Lisa Karcher, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met to open bids for the Hicksville Park Waterline, a CDBG project.  Also attending the meeting were:  Kent Miller, Village of Hicksville; Jerry Wilder, Lingvai Excavating; Steve Kirkendall, H & K Construction; David Phillips, D.E. Phillips Excavating; Cory Baden, Tim-Cor; and Ann Kaverman, All Purpose Construction.  Bids were received from the following:

The bids were taken under advisement and will be officially accepted when the full Board is present at the next regular meeting.  Poggemeyer Design Group will meet with the Hicksville Village Council to present the bids for their review.  Rick Weaver will return to the Board with a recommendation later next week.

 

11:30 a.m.      Tim Houck and June Crosser, Landfill/Environmental and Administrative Services, came in to open bids for an off-road Water Wagon for the Landfill.  Also attending the meeting was Jeff Dress, Holt Company of Ohio.  Bids were received from:
