DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Monday, March 10, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Operations Manager; Alison Grimes, Clerk, and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk

 

8:30 a.m.        Russ Herman, County Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to update the Commissioners on the status of various County documents pending his review and approval.  Russ is currently up-to-date on all paperwork. 

 

9:00 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved various travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

10:00 a.m.      Warren Schlatter, County Engineers office, met with the Commissioners to open bids for several projects.  Also attending this portion of the bid opening was Joe Westhoven, DG Slurry Seal, Holland, Ohio and Al Garcia, GT Contracting, Archbold, Ohio.  First, bids were opened for the 2003 Crack Seal Program.  Bids were received from the following:

 

GT Contracting                                  $54,729.50

Archbold, Ohio

 

Slurry Seal                                         $55,771.25

Holland, Ohio

 

Engineer’s estimate is $61,587.50

 

The bids were accepted as presented for further review and recommendation.

 

Then, bids were opened for 2003 Vegetation Control.  Bids were received from the following:

 

Chemi-Trol Chemical                       $16,434.00

Gibsonburg, Ohio

 

The Dalton’s                                      $14,681.04

Warsaw, Indiana

 

Engineer’s estimate is $15,338.40.

 

These bids were also accepted as presented for further review and recommendation.

 

Commissioners also signed the plans for the realignment of the Buckskin Road Bridge and authorized Mr. Davis to proceed with the bidding process and acquiring road right-of-way.  The project is located on the border between Hicksville and Mark Townships and will consist of the reconstruction of the intersection of Buckskin Road and Rosedale Road, including correctly superelevated curves.

 

Warren also noted that all documentation is ready for the bid opening Monday, April 7, 2003 for the Bend Road Bridge Project.

 

The Engineer’s office is in the process of creating a web site citizens may check to see what bridge projects are being done and at what stage they are in.

 

11:00 a.m.      Commissioners left to attend a Workforce Development meeting at the Public Safety services facility.

 

2:30 p.m.        Commissioners left to attend the Quarterly Commissioners’ and Engineers’ meeting in Bowling Green.   Wood County Commissioners hosted the meeting.
