DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MARCH 15, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Thursday, March 15, 2007, at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Becky Wagner, County Administrator, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

On the recommendation of Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, the Commissioners awarded the 2007 Crack Seal Bid to DG Slurry Seal of Toledo, Inc, Holland, OH in the amount bid by them of $73,191.40.  The Commissioners also awarded the 2007 Pavement Marking Bid to Oglesby Construction, Inc., Norwalk, OH in the amount bid by them of $94,376.95.

 

Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her report to the Board of County Commissioners.  Becky reported that she attended the Records Commission meeting on March 14th.  The Records Commission discussed changes to HB 9 that will take effect September 2007. 

 

Randy Vogel, Dog Warden, came before the Board and presented his monthly report from February 1 through February 28, 2007 to the Commissioners.  Randy reported that he investigated 90 complaints, made 202 personal contacts, issued 13 warnings, wrote 8 citations, and took 21 dogs to the shelter.

 

Randy also reported driving 2,300 miles during the month of February and took 1,620 of euthanized animals to the Landfill.  Randy also mentioned court fine receipts for the month of February were $566.00.

 

Emily Lenhart, Jean Gaskill and Ralph Haun came before the Board to discuss restoring the exterior of the Courthouse.  Ralph Haun noted that they would like to assist the Commissioners in raising funds and obtaining grants to restore the exterior of the Courthouse if the Commissioners would decide to restore the Courthouse.     The Commissioners have not made a decision on which direction to proceed with the Courthouse.  The Commissioners, in the near future, will be scheduling a meeting to meet with the Elected Official to discuss different options on how to proceed before a decision is made.  The Commissioners thanked them for offering their assistance and will contact them when a decision is made.

 

Rick Edmonds, Superintendent of the Defiance County Board of MR/DD, met with the Commissioners to discuss their need to place their.85 mill operating levy on the November, 2007 ballot as a replacement levy.   Mr. Edmonds presented to the Board financial information projecting funding losses due to rule changes and tangible personal property tax decreases of MR/DD's current three levies.  The Commissioners will request the County Auditor to certify the amount of monies which would be generated with the replacement of the .85 mill levy.
