DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MARCH 25, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 25, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and provided an update on various County projects.  Laura stated that Jack Graf, Job & Family Services Director, reported that April is Child Abuse Awareness month and planned activities on April 1st include placement of pinwheels on the Courthouse lawn by child Protective Services staff and Defiance College student volunteers.   

 

Tim Houck, Defiance County Landfill Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update.  Tim provided the following information for the month of February, 2010:  Total Sales - $168,532.70; Total Tons – 4852.36; Total Cubic Yards – 17,540. 

 

Tim also reported that on March 17th – St Patrick’s Day, the Defiance College, the Youth Volunteer Corps of Northwest Ohio and the Defiance County Environmental Services program conducted a “Go Green for St. Patrick’s Day” electronic recycling effort.  Working together we educate, collect and recycled material that would have gone into the landfill.  The event collected over 6 – 3X3 boxes of electronics (computers and components) which were recycling through Goodwill Industries in Defiance.  The County Environmental Program is thankful to the Defiance College and its continuing effort to teach environmental management to not only the students of the College but also to the general community.  This event is part of the college’s year round ongoing vibrant environmental program.

 

On Friday, March 26th, the Commissioners attended the CORSA Renewal Meeting.
