DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, March 30, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner Thomas Kime, Commissioner Richard Cromwell, Commissioner Otto Nicely, Administrator, Becky Wagner, Lyla Gurwell, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

General Session – General Session - The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

George Masterson came in to talk with Commissioners about the water line project on Elliott Road.  Mr. Masterson asked if the water line could be extended to his property.  The Commissioners advised he could do that, but he would have to pay to have it extended.  Mr. Masterson indicated that he was looking at options to sell the land to interested developers and will continue to pursue his options.

 

Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented her weekly update.  Becky discussed the County Maintenance Department will be installing floor drains in the second and third floor restrooms at the Courthouse to avoid potential water overflow problems from the restrooms.

 

Becky also reported the new maintenance buildings are progressing and the cable for the telephone lines will be run to the buildings from Defiance County East Office Complex.

 

Lynn Army, District Manager of Maumee Watershed Conservancy District came in to discuss the St. Joe River Project. Mr. Army updated the Board on the project and advised the Commissioners that there is a final draft for design that will need to be approved.  His department has identified 75 log jams within Defiance and Williams Counties.  Lynn also mentioned if they can get access to the log jams that are obstructing the water flow; they will be removed by the contractor. 

 

There are 435 parcels that will be affected in Defiance County and 1,430 acres affected by this project.
