DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 8, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, and Stephanie Metz, Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and provided an update on various County projects.  Laura informed the Board that Julie Rittenhouse and herself recently received an update of Defiance County’s Workers Compensation from CompManagement.  They were informed that Defiance County Workers’ Comp analysis looks great.  The Defiance County Total modified Loss for the current four-year cycle was $20,932.  When BWC compares Defiance County to other Ohio counties with similar payroll, they expect to pay out $220,110 for the same four-year time period.

 

Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services Director, met with the Commissioners to provide an update.  Tina informed the Commissioners that they will be handing out the lilacs for the Lilac Festival on May 8th.  The Senior Prom is on May 13th at the Defiance Eagles; dinner is at 5:00 pm with dancing from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.  Tina informed the Board that in honor of Senior Citizens’ Month, The Northtowne Mall in Defiance has donated a storefront for their use to host “One Man’s Treasure Garage Sale and More” on May 14th, 15th and 16th.  The garage sale will be open the same times as the mall.  They will have many items on sale as well as a bake sale and raffle for a quilt.  The Senior Services is looking for items to be donated for the garage sale (no clothes or shoes, please), items for the bake sale or volunteers to work at the Sale.  All donated items can be dropped off at the Defiance Senior Center or the Hicksville Senior Center.  For more information, please contact Defiance Senior Center at 419-782-3233 or Hicksville Senior Center at 419-542-5004.

 

Representatives from the Fairboard met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

On Friday, the Commissioners are attending the DOJ Advisory meeting and LEPC meeting at Defiance County EMA Building.
