DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 9, 2007

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session on Monday, April 9, 2007  at 8:30 a.m., in the Conference Room of the Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Defiance, OH 43512.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, James E. Harris, Jr., Sherry Carnahan, Deputy Clerk, and Debra Bloomfield, Deputy Clerk. 

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  The Commissioners reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings, and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter, opened bids for 2007 Bituminous Materials.  There was one bidder, Asphalt Materials, Inc., Oregon, Ohio.  The bid breakdown includes:  MWS 90 - $1.35 p.u. (pick up price) and $1.3875 del. (delivered price); MC 30 - $2.55 p.u. & $2.5875 del.; RS 2 - $1.35 p.u. & $1.3875 del.; RS 2P - $1.65 p.u. & $1.6875 del.; AEP Prime - $1.45 p.u. & $1.4875 del.; CM 90 - $2.10 p.u. & $2.1241 del.; CM 150 - $2.15 p.u. & $2.1741 del.; CM 300 - $2.65 p.u. & $2.6741 del.  The bid will be taken under advisement. 

 

Mr. Schlatter updated the Commissioners on 2007 accumulated revenue taken in by the County Engineer's office and development on the SR 24 project including Toledo Edison poles on Elliott Road.

 

Greg Reinhart, County Wastewater Director, presented an update to the Commissioners on the monthly report of March and communications from Ohio EPA.  Two estimates were received for the removal and replacement of the roof on the Belden Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Dilly Door Co. submitted a proposal of $3,880.00 and Tri-County Roofing, Inc. - $4,000.00.  The Board of Commissioners gave permission to proceed with the quote from Dilly Door Co.

 

At 11:00 a.m. CSX Trainmaster, Mike Shaefer, Lt. Chris Clawson of the Sheriff's Office, Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecutor, Defiance County Engineer Warren Schlatter, Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, and Paul Vogelsong, guest, met with the Board of Commissioners to discuss the train traffic at the Hire Road crossing.  Mr. Shaefer assured everyone present of his and CSX's willingness to work on any concerns at the various railroad crossings.

 

Maumee Valley Planning Organization Director, Dennis Miller, met with the Commissioners for an update on R&L Enterprises Industrial Park.  Jerry Hayes, Economic Development, was present for the update also.

 

The Defiance Development and Visitors Bureau Director, Cindy Mack, met with the Commissioners to give an update on the various planned activities throughout the county in the upcoming months. Cindy has acquainted herself and shown the Visitors Bureau's interest in events held in all areas of Defiance County.  A recent market analysis was taken throughout the county to gain information on the needs of Defiance County.
