DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 10, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, April 10, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely, Lyla Gurwell, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

Bob Arend, Arend Enterprises came in to discuss the Maximus contract with the Commissioners.  Bob mentioned the original contract submitted for the price of the conversion cost was not agreeable to the vendor and a new contract will need to be submitted to the Commissioners for review prior to a meeting with the vendor.

 

Bob also noted the Manatron project is going very well.  The new software has been installed on a number of work stations in the courthouse. Training is being conducted through the end of April.

 

Defiance County Auditor, Marlene J. Goodwin and Defiance County Treasurer, Karen Tubbs came in for the 1st quarter financial meeting. It was noted that sales tax receipts were down in the first quarter by $17,612, health insurance premiums were down approximately $33,000.  Other revenue and expenses were comparable to 2005.

 

The Commissioners held a Board of Revisions meeting with Marlene Goodwin and Karen Tubbs.

 

Tina Hiler, Director of the Defiance County Senior Center came in for her monthly update.  Tina reported they continue to assist with Medicare Part D.  They have helped approximately 65 persons. 

 

Tina also reported the “Senior Prom” was held last Thursday, April 6.  Approximately 240 seniors attended ad 60 college students.  The event was held at the Defiance Eagles.

 

Tina mentioned she will be riding with all of the meal route and transportation drivers in late April and will conduct evaluations in May.

 

The Senior Center will be closed due to a mandatory staff training which will be held on June 5th.  The training includes CPR, Drug Free Workplace training, Blood Born Pathogens, Incident reports, CCNO Training and Nutrition Requirements Overview training.

 

Tina discussed the Fundraising Committee is working very hard identifying and contacting several foundations and groups as well as working on speeches to business groups and working on radio promotions for the new Senior Building.  Tina will be meeting with several volunteers this week to discuss different aspects of the fundraising campaign.

 

Tina also reported total transportation trip totaled 13,778 in 2005 Vs 8,986 in 2004.  Medical in-town trips in Defiance during 2005 totaled 2,109 Vs 1,349 in 2004.  Total home delivered meals in 2005 ended at 68,060 Vs 63,018 in 2004 and congregate meals in 2005 were at 13,020 Vs 14,947 in 2004.
