DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 12, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 12, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, and Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

Matt Davis, Maumee Valley Planning Organization, met with the Commissioners for a public hearing regarding amending the FY 2009 CDBG Formula Allocation Program with no one from the public in attendance.  On June 22, 2009, a public hearing was conducted to recommend the following activities for funding:

The Commissioners approved submitting the request to the Ohio Department of Development.

 

Matt Davis also provided an update on the Neighborhood Stabilization Project and the Brownfield Grant Project.  The Neighborhood Stabilization Project will be bid within the next couple weeks.  This project is rehabilitating a house in the Village of Hicksville.

 

The steering committee for the Brownfield Grant Project recently met and is taking applications for phase 1 environmental assessments.  There are applications and a fact sheet available at the following website for the Brownfield Grant Project:  http://www.defiance-county.com/brownfields.html.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for his weekly update and to open bids for the 2010 Microsurfacing Project.  The following bids were received:  Strawser Construction: $55,414.98; D.G. Slurry Seal of Toledo, Inc.: $46,278.46; American Pavement: $45,285.36.  The Engineer’s estimate was $46,156.50.

 

Sandy Schappert, Defiance County Child Support Enforcement Agency Director, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Sandy reported that collections through Mach 2010 were $1,755,452.  There are currently 3,139 active cases.  Sandy reported the following statistics for January through March 2010: reviewed and/or modified 32 child support cases; 94 support orders established; 103 Court and/or Administrative Hearings; 58 paternities established; 26 genetic tests completed.

 

Matt Gilroy, Airport Authority Board, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Matt reported that Phase 1 of the Taxiway Project is almost complete.  The items still needing completed are the seeding and striping.  Phase 2 is currently on hold-waiting on funding from FAA.
