NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, April 17, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely.  Also present was Alison Grimes, Clerk. and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.   

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests, signed two letters of recommendation for the Volunteer Connection literacy and technology grant applications, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.   

 

Yesterday, Commissioners, City Officials, Township Trustees and local business owners met in the City Services Building on Perry Street to discuss the U.S. Route 24/West High Street interchange with Kirk Slusser of the Ohio Department of Transportation.  Traffic studies were reviewed during the meeting.

 

Also, Commissioners attended the CCNO 12th Annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet last night at the CCNO facility.  250 volunteers were honored for offering assistance to CCNO inmates.  Volunteer hours totaled 25,170 in 2002. 

 

9:30 a.m.        Jerry Hayes, Economic Development Director, Dennis Miller, Maumee Valley Planning Director and Jim Joost, Northwest Ethanol Project, scheduled to meet with the Board to discuss the ethanol facility project, cancelled the meeting.    

                       

Tim Houck, Landfill Manager, cancelled his 10:30 a.m. meeting with the Commissioners.  He is rescheduled for next Thursday at the same time.

 

After the meeting, Commissioner Kime left to attend a CIC meeting in Hicksville and Commissioner Nicely left for Columbus to attend a CCAO Legislative meeting.

 

Today’s meeting adjourned at 9:45 a.m.
