DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, APRIL 17, 2006

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Monday, April 17, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely, Lyla Gurwell, Clerk and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

General Session – General Session - The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

Warren submitted and reviewed with the Board the 2006 Accumulated Revenue, Permissive Tax, Motor Vehicle/License Tax and Gas Tax through March, 2006.  Warren noted that the Bond for Bend Road has been paid off.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer came in for his weekly update.  Warren discussed the purchase of the 4 new tractors and mowers for the Defiance County Highway Garage.  The new equipment will be purchased through state bid.

 

Warren also discussed the need to take a look at the West High Canoe Launch.  There will be further discussion between the Engineer and the Commissioners.

 

There was further discussion about the Elliott Road Project.  Warren mentioned there could be an approximate 4,000 foot long trench dug to cover the existing force main.  The contractor will give Warren Schlatter a price to do this work .

 

Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts came in to discuss the imaging of documents.  Jean indicated the documents that have been put on microfilm are from 1849 through 1980.  Jean wants to continue with this process until the Commissioners have had opportunity to review other options of more updated ways of imaging documents.  The Commissioners will continue to review their options and make a decision at a later date.

 

Russ Herman, Assistant Prosecuting Attorney came in to update the Commissioners on his projects.  Russ discussed the vacation of Winn Road.  The City of Defiance is requesting the vacation of Winn Road from the Canal Road to Kibble Road due to the reservoir project. 

 

Jim Volkert, Republican Candidate for State Representative 74th House District Seat came in to discuss various issues with Commissioners.  The Commissioners discussed the unfunded mandates with budget cuts.  The Commissioners are trying to do budgetary planning for the Courthouse and other projects.  The unfunded mandates are making it extremely difficult to plan because of the distribution of money at the county level.
