COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, APRIL 19, 2010
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, April 19, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
Morris Murray, Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney, met with the
Commissioners for an update.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
The Commissioners attended the Special Meeting for the Joint Board of
Defiance and Williams County regarding Lick Creek. The Special Meeting was for Executive Session
to discuss pending litigation and to hire legal counsel. After coming out of Executive Session, with no
decisions being made in Executive Session, the Joint Board discussed and voted
unanimously to hire Donald Theis of Baran, Piper, Tarkowsky,
Fitzgerald, & Theis Co., LPA to represent the
Joint Board and the Joint Board Clerk regarding case No. 10-CV-40582.
Representatives from Ohio Rail Development Commission, Ohio Department
of Transportation, CSX Railroad, and the City of Defiance met with the
Commissioners to discuss CSX railroad crossings. Discussion included the Clinton Street
viaduct and the switches at Hire Road. After
CSX and Ohio Rail Development Commission reviews both matters, another meeting will
be scheduled in mid-May to discuss the matter further.
There will be an informational public forum on April 29th at
6:00 p.m. at Defiance County EMA Building, 22491 Mill Street. The public forum is regarding FirstEnergy
Solutions’ Governmental Aggregation program that will be on the May election ballots
in the following Townships: Adams, Defiance, Farmer, Highland, Noble, Richland and
Tiffin.
