DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, April 21, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairman Thomas L. Kime.  Also present were Commissioner Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.  Commissioner Otto L. Nicely was absent.       

 

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

 

9:10 a.m.      Due to an unexpected meeting, Randy Vogel, County Dog Warden, presented his monthly report at this time instead of the planned 10:30 a.m. time slot.  He reviewed his report for the month of March, noting the following:  his office responded to 127 complaints and had personal contact with 310 individuals, took 38 dogs to the Animal Shelter, issued 29 warnings and 26 citations, and logged 2,809 miles on the county vehicle.  2,260 pounds of euthanized animals were taken to the Landfill for disposal.  During the day the Assistant Dog Warden is going door-to-door performing a dog license check.  

 

 

9:30 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented the following for the Board’s review:

 

She reviewed information concerning Wednesday’s Family and Children First Council meeting, noting that the budget process is going well.  Becky also updated them on the MR/DD accreditation meeting held Wednesday afternoon at Good Samaritan School.

 

Grass seed has been sowed and straw placed over it in the area behind the parking lot at KeyBank.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, will be in on Monday, April 25 to update the Board on signage at Defiance County-East.

 

 

11:00 a.m.    Warren Schlatter, County Engineer, met with the Board to open bids for the Bend Road project and 2005 Bridge Materials.  Also attending the meeting was: Zoe Anderzack, Anderzack-Pitzen Construction; Joe Murray, George Gradel Construction; Dave Battin, Diversified Road and Pipe; and Jeremy Hurst, Miller Brothers Construction.
