DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 22, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved a proclamation to officially designate April 25 through May 2, 2010 as Habitat Stewardship Week.  Fertile soil and clean water provide us with our daily sustenance.  Effective conservation practices have helped provide us a rich standard of living.  Our security depends upon healthy soil and clean water.  Stewardship calls for each person to help conserve these precious resources.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and provided an update on various County projects.  

 

Laura provided the following department updates:

            EMA:  Julie Rittenhouse is scheduling tornado drills in various county offices.

            Maintenance:  Ron Cereghin reported that they top coated the Records center front entrance, installed a “no dumping” sign at the river bank along Biede Avenue and is spraying the lawns for weeds.

 

Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group, and contractors for the Auglaize River Sewers Projects met with the Commissioners for the pre-construction conference.  The project is to begin approximately June 1, 2010 and be completed by July, 2011.

 

The Commissioners held a meeting for the Northwest Ohio’s River Region.  The meeting was for the subcommittee to provide an update of the project to the Commissioners and Mayors for the Counties and Villages involved in the project.
