DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, April 27, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner’s Richard Cromwell, & Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

The Commissioners along with the County Engineer attended Government Day meetings in Lima this morning.

 

ODOT Officials discussed State projects within Defiance County to include the construction of the new 4-lane divided expressway from US-24/SR-424 intersection to just east of the SR-15 interchange.  The length of the project is 3 miles.  The approximate duration of the project is three construction seasons and the estimated cost is $36,750,000.

 

Other projects include spring 2006 culvert replacements with traffic detoured at Doud Ditch, 1.8 miles west of SR-15, and 2-lane resurfacing from the east Corp. Line of Hicksville to SR-15, an 18 mile project to begin this summer for approximately 30 days.  The cost of the project will be $1,965,500.

 

Many topics were discussed and included the Effects of increased construction material costs on projects, post construction storm water controls, a Location based Response System, Local GIS Data Warehousing and Funding programs for local governments.

 

The Commissioners held a brief General Session to sign various resolutions and documents necessary for month end.

 

The Commissioners signed a letter to the Defiance County Humane Society requesting that a dog license be sold with every adoption from the shelter.  The Ohio revised code Section 955.21 states that every dog must be licensed in the State of Ohio.

 

Clerk of Courts, Jean Ziegler sent in her report for March, 2006. Clerk fees collected were as follows:  Legal Fees collected - $14,366.46, title Fees Collected - $5,817.18.  Sales Use and Dealers Tax collected was $457,803.54, and Watercraft Tax Collected was $2,233.16.

 

The number of titles issued was 2,741, number of notation of liens was 653, number of inspections was 560, new car titles issued was 131, motorcycles was 57, Motor Homes was 8, Used Cars was 1,755, Manufactured Homes was 23, New trucks was 77, Trailers was 14, Off-road Vehicles was 32, Used Trucks was 562, Travel Trailers was 16, Watercraft was 31.
