NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference
Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance,
Ohio 43512
on Monday, April 28, 2003. The meeting was called to order by Thomas
Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell. Also present was Becky Wagner, Administrator,
Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.
8:30 a.m. General Session – Commissioners approved
and signed various resolutions and documents, reviewed the agenda items and the
calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the
calendar of events. The Board reviewed
the Administrator’s report from last week as they did not have a chance to do
so then.
9:00 a.m. Judge Stephen Ruyle and Mark Hopper,
Public Safety Services Coordinator, met with the Board to discuss a personnel
issue. Commissioners entered EXECUTIVE SESSION
at 9:01 a.m. regarding Personnel (ORC
121.22 (G) (1) ). EXECUTIVE SESSION
ended at 9:10 a.m. A letter will be sent to the employee
offering a position, scheduled work hours and pay.
Commissioners also reviewed the Maumee
and Auglaize flood stage levels with Mark.
The National Weather Service has
suggested the current figures be updated as the figures are somewhat outdated. The Board will review and possibly update the
figures.
10:00 a.m. Gaylon Davis,
County Engineer,
met with the Board to present his weekly report at this time. He reviewed ODOT’s list of road repair
work. Standley
Road, just east of the City, will be closed for
repairs today. Work is beginning today
on the Bend Road. Also,
the paving program is moving along well – about 4 miles are already paved. The Buckskin
Road Bridge,
west of Route 2 should be open this week.
The Buckskin Road
realignment is slated to begin May 12.
May 5, vegetation control (weed spraying) is due to begin.
They also reviewed flood stage level information. The Engineer’s office has records from
previous floods in Defiance County
which can be researched for more detailed information.
The Engineer’s office is in the process of removing/trimming
various trees along the road right-of-way in the Evansport area.
10:30 a.m.
Ken Maag, Poggemeyer Design Group,
met with the Commissioners for an update on the Express Sewer Project. Russ Herman, County Chief Assistant
Prosecuting Attorney, also attended the meeting. The
group met to discuss a non-performance issue concerning manhole work in the
Express Sewer project. Poggemeyer has
created a change order to compensate for the non-performance items. Ken will make several revisions, as
recommended by Russ Herman, and will resubmit for the Commissioner’s approval.
Ken then reviewed quotes for generators for the
project. He is still waiting to receive
several more quotes from local businesses.
Once Ken receives the quotes, he will formalize a change order for the
equipment.
Finally, Ken reviewed two quotes he received for the
removal/demolition of a sewage holding tank at Christi Meadows. Tim-Cor, Inc, Defiance,
quoted a price of $17,500 and Lingvai excavating quoted $11,100 to remove the
structure. Commissioners okayed the
Lingvai quote.
11:05 a.m. Russ
Herman, Chief Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, and Tim Houck, Landfill Manager,
met with the Board in EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding Imminent Litigation (ORC
121.22 (G) (3) ). EXECUTIVE SESSION
ended at 11:50 a.m. Commissioners passed a resolution to have
Downes, Hurst and Fishel negotiate a settlement.
Today’s meeting adjourned at 11:51
a.m.
