DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, April 28, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; Alison Grimes, Clerk and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. 

 

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

 

9:30 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented the following for the Board’s review:

 

Family and Children First Council, Help Me Grow and Defiance County Preschool will be hosting an Open House on Friday, May 13 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.  Their office is located in the Commissioners’ building, 500 Court Street, Suite F.

 

She submitted Civilian Labor Force estimates for Defiance and surrounding counties for February and March, 2005.

 

Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, is obtaining quotes to seal the parking lots at Evergreen Lane, Island Park Avenue, the Commissioner’s Annex and Defiance County-East.

 

During Wednesday’s Family and Children First Council meeting, the following were elected as officers: Dennis McKay (Job and Family Services), Chairman; John Kaylor (Board of Education), Vice-Chairman; Barb Rohrs( OSU Extension Office), Secretary; Don Knueve (Defiance College), Member-At-Large and Cari Jiminez, Parent Representative.  They assume their new positions effective July 1.

 

 

10:30 a.m.    Kevin Hancock and Mike Boff, Soil and Water Conservation District technician, met with the Board to open bids for the Jesse Ditch #98-8 and Allen Ditch #00-1 projects.  No one else attended the bid opening.

Delta, Ohio

 

Engineer’s estimate is $5,300.00

 

 

 

 

ALLEN DITCH #00-1

 

Zenz Farms                                           $18,000.00

Delta, Ohio

 

Engineer’s estimate is $23,500.00.

 

No other bids were received for either project.  The Board accepted the bids as presented and Both Mr. Hancock and Mr. Boff will present their recommendations sometime next week.

 

 

11:00 a.m.    Chad Peter, Defiance Clinic Administrator and Jeff Peterson, Mercy Hospital, Sam Zindorf, met with the Board at this time.  Also attending was Russ Herman, Assistant County Prosecuting Attorney.  The group met and reviewed information concerning the County’s property located adjacent to the Clinic.  The Clinic expressed their interest in purchasing the property, but no decisions were made.  Per Ohio Revised Code, if and when sold, the property would need to be sold at public auction.
