DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioner Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Commissioners approved the contracts with American Pavements, Inc. for the 2010 Microsurfacing Project for the Defiance County Engineer in the amount of $45,285.36.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and provided an update on various County projects.  

 

Laura provided the following department updates:

            EMA:  Julie Rittenhouse reported that Defiance County received a Special Award at the Black Swamp Safety Council for outstanding effort in safety by operating without a lost-time accident from 02/29/2008 to 06/16/2009 and 811,138 hours worked.

           

Tim Houck, Environmental Services/Landfill, met with the Commissioners for his monthly update.  Tim reported that the Hicksville Transfer Station began “summer hours” on April 27th.  The Hicksville Transfer Station is now open the first and third Saturdays of the month from 8:00 am until 2:00 pm.  March 26th and 27th was the Great American State Roadway clean up of Ohio.  In Defiance County there were 1,300 pounds of waste collected from 67 miles of roadway.  March began the classroom education program.  Through April 27th, over 2,200 student in Kindergarten, Second and Fourth grades were provided materials and information on recycling and litter prevention.

 

Toby Hood, Rob Smith and Ryan Konst, Schooley-Caldwell, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Historic Jail Project.  Charles Construction continues to work on basements, foundations, underpinning storm water drainage.
