NEWS RELEASE
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners
met at 8:30 a.m. in the Council Room
of the Village of Hicksville,
Hicksville, Ohio
on Thursday, May 1, 2003. The meeting was called to order by Thomas
Kime, Chairman. Present were Commissioners
Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L.
Cromwell. Also present was Becky
Wagner, Administrator, and Alison Grimes,
Clerk. Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk, was
present during the meetings held in Defiance.
8:30 a.m. General Session – Commissioners approved
and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests,
signed a letter of support for a grant for Victim’s Assistance, reviewed the agenda
items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated
information for the calendar of events.
At approximately 9:45 a.m.
the meeting was recessed in Hicksville and the group
began the return to Defiance.
10:25 a.m. Becky Wagner,
County Administrator,
presented her report to the Board at this time.
Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, is obtaining quotes for a boiler
for the Job & Family Services facility.
Discussion regarding the trade-in of a maintenance truck for
a used van was tabled until later this year.
Ron Dorohoff, Wastewater Operations, was given approval to
take an Intermediate Wastewater II correspondence course.
At 10:48
a. m., Randy Vogel, County Humane Agent, met with the Commissioners under
EXECUTIVE SESSION regarding the hiring of Personnel (ORC 121.22 (G) (1)). EXECUTIVE SESSION ended at 10:55 a.m.
Several candidates’ resumes were reviewed for the temporary position of
County Dog License Verifier. No
decision was made at this time.
At 11:10 a.m.,
the Board entered EXECUTIVE SESSION to discuss the purchase of Property (ORC
121.22 (G) (2). EXECUTIVE SESSION ended
at 11:15 a.m. No decision was made at this time.
11:30 a.m. Commissioners
and county elected officials Gaylon Davis, Engineer; Marlene Goodwin, Auditor;
Jeff Strausbaugh, Prosecutor; Judge Steven Ruyle, Probate and Juvenile Court;
Karen Tubbs, Treasurer; Jane Tadsen, Recorder; Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts;
Sheriff Dave Westrick and Judge Joseph Schmenk, Common Pleas Court, met at
Charlie’s Down Under for a luncheon/meeting.
The group discussed the county’s budget and reviewed information
concerning the county’s Drug-Free Workplace program and courthouse procedures
for disaster response. The elected
officials updated each other on their departmental activities.
1:00 p.m. Commissioners attended a Maumee Valley
Planning Commission meeting at Maumee Valley Planning.
Today’s meeting adjourned at 1:45 p.m.
