The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the
Hicksville Village Council Room, Hicksville,
Ohio on Thursday, May 1, 2008. Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners
James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell,
County Administrator and Cara Brown,
Clerk. Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk,
was present for the session at the Defiance
location.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and
signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel
requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Laura
Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the
Board. Laura updated the Commissioners on the City’s CSO project (Combined
Sewer Overflow). Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, was present during a
portion of the update and advised that there are several roof top air
compressors at the Evergreen Lane Office Complex that keep breaking down. Ron
advised that he is currently working with Jerry Overmier and a contractor to
try to determine if the air compressors should be replaced or if there is
something else can be designed to help the situation.
Laura advised that
Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Director, informed her that he has performed some dye
testing on the sewer line that runs along St. Rt. 66 North. He has discovered
at least one leak and that will be fixed by that user.
Tim Houck,
Landfill Manager, met with the Commissioners to discuss awarding the bid for
the North Pump Station / Leachate Collection System Upgrade. Upon the
recommendation of Tim and the Mannick and Smith Group, the Commissioners
awarded the bid, Proposal A, to Miller Brothers Construction, Archbold, Ohio.
The bid amount was $206, 575.00.
Marlene Goodwin,
Auditor, Jill Little and Barb Lasek, Deputy Auditors, met with the
Commissioners to discuss the payroll scanning project their office has been
working on. Jill advised that they have scanned all of the inactive personnel
files and are ready to move on to scanning active employee personnel files. The
Board gave approval for the Auditor’s office to move forward with this step of
the project after the Prosecutor’s office reviews the contract documents.
The Commissioners
met with Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, for discussion on the facilities.
The Board took Jerry through the Engineer’s building and explained to him what
their thoughts were for updating this building so that several offices could be
relocated there. The Commissioners requested that Jerry take their ideas and
with the information he has about the buildings, inform the Board on what he
thinks will or will not work.
During Study
Session on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 the Board of Commissioners met with the
Defiance City Board of Control to discuss the Elliott Road - State Route 66 Interchange
project. The Commissioners informed the City that the County would take care of
the Elliott Road
intersection portion of the project. This portion of the project starts from
just north of the Meijer drive to just past the intersection. The estimated to
cost for this portion is about $650,000.00.
