DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

MONDAY, MAY 3, 2010

 

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 3, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman James E. Harris, Jr. called the meeting to order.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk. 

 

Russ Herman, Defiance County Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners for an update.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents.  The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

Warren Schlatter, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update.  Warren informed the Commissioners that due to the weather the roadside grading projects that were to be done last week will be done this week, weather permitting.  The bridge work on Independence Road should be completed this week.  The crew will then be moving to Openlander Road north of S.R. 18, possibly next week.  The Paving contractor and Crack Sealing contractor are continuing their work.

 

Julie Rittenhouse, Defiance County EMA Director, met with the Commissioners for a department update.  Julie informed the Commissioners that in March there were 18 people trained over four days for the CERT class.  Julie is currently scheduling tornado drills for the county buildings. 

 

Julie informed the Commissioners about the CodeRED system.  This system is currently being funding by the Defiance County Health Department through a grant.  The CodeRED Emergency Notification System is a fast communication service allowing Defiance County to notify citizens of an emergency situation.  It enables the County to provide a mass notification quickly and easily.  This service is free to all Defiance County residents and businesses.  This system will utilize the Reverse 911 database, but all businesses should register, as well as individuals who have unlisted phone numbers, who have changes their phone number or address within the past year, and those who have a cellular phone or VoIP phone as their primary number.  There will be forms and links on the Defiance County website available as soon as the program officially rolls out this month.

 

Larry Woods, Faye Hall, Eric Weber, Ginny Shrimplin, CORSA, and Julie Rittenhouse met with the Commissioners for the CORSA renewal.

 

Amy Galbraith, Defiance County Clerk of Courts, met with the Commissioners to discuss her scanning project.  Amy informed the Board that the scanning project is going well.

 

Jane Siler and Louie Yoder met with the Commissioners to discuss their concerns with the Humane Shelter.  The Commissioners have taken their concerns under advisement.
