DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

NEWS RELEASE

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Monday, May 5, 2003.  The meeting was called to order by Thomas Kime, Chairman.  Present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime, Otto L. Nicely and Richard L. Cromwell.  Also present were Becky Wagner, Administrator; and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk.   

 

8:30 a.m.        Jeff Strausbaugh, County Prosecuting Attorney; and Russ Herman, Chief Assistant County Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Board in executive session regarding Land Acquisition.  Mr. Herman also reviewed various documents pending his review/approval. 

 

9:00 a.m.        General Session – Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.   

 

10:00 a.m.      Gaylon Davis, County Engineer, met with the Board to open bids for the 2003 Pavement Marking Project.   Bids were received from the following:  

 

            Oglesby Construction, Inc.                                                   $63,598.99

            Norwalk, OH 

 

            Aero-Mark, Inc.                                                                                  $64,895.10

            Streetsboro, OH                                                                               

 

10:30 a.m.      Jerry Hayes, County Economic Development Director, was scheduled to meet with the Board at this time regarding several Enterprise Zone Agreements, but cancelled as some of the paperwork was not yet completed.  He will reschedule the meeting.

 

11:00 a.m.      Diane Mayer,Tina Hiler, Delinda Chavez, and Robin Justus  met with the Board at this time to present an update of Senior Services activities and review financial reports. 

 

1:30 p.m.        Beth Hansen, from the Ohio Bicentennial Committee, met with the Board; Fred Schultz, Mayor of Defiance; Clayton Miller, Mayor of Sherwood; Clark Poth, Hicksville Village Building Inspector, to present Defiance, Sherwood, and Hicksville each with a sign and certificate designating each community as a “Bicentennial Community”.

 

2:00 p.m.        Jerry Hayes, Economic Development; Dennis Miller and Will Burns, Maumee Valley Planning; Lynn Bergman, Northwest Ohio Ethanol; and Gaylon Davis, Defiance County Engineer, met with the Board for an update on the Ethanol project.

 

2:30 p.m.        Susan Jackson, Interim Director of Defiance County Job and Family Services met with the Board for a Job & Family Services and Workforce Development update.    . 

 

Today’s meeting adjourned at 3:40 p.m.
