DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 8, 2008 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioners James E. Harris, Jr. and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell, County Administrator, Cara Brown, Clerk, and Joanne Goerlitz, Deputy Clerk.

 

The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events and discussed upcoming meetings.

 

The Board received the April 2008 Activity Report for Jean Ziegler, Clerk of Courts. Jean reported collecting Legal fees of $16,515.12 and Title fees of $3,681.91. The Certificate of Title Administrative Fund is at $11,045.72. Jean also reported deposits for the following: Legal fees of $75,001.39 and Title fees of $426,944.71. The Sales or Use and Dealers’ Tax collected was $400,958.63 and Watercraft Tax collected was $1,874.93. The number of Titles issues was 2,327, number of Notation of Liens was 520 and the number of inspections was 539.

 

Laura Howell, Administrator, provided her weekly update to the Board. Laura advised that Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, is still working on the air conditioning units out at Evergreen Lane Office Complex. He will be providing quotes on the repairs in the near future. She also reported that Greg Reinhart, Wastewater Director, informed her that a leak in the sewer line by McCarthy’s has been fixed.

 

Laura also provided an update to the Commissioners on the Department Head meeting she had earlier in the week. Laura informed the Board that the Dog Warden’s office has started going from door-to-door to check for dog licenses. Any dog owner that is found not to have a dog license for their dog(s) is subject to a citation and/or a fine.

 

Jerry Overmier, Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to open bids for the Good Samaritan School Reroof project. The engineer’s estimate for Good Sam is $195,000.00. The bids received for the Good Sam Roof Project, Option A, are as follows: Bebout & Houg Roofing, Van Wert, Ohio - $198,431; Quality Roofing, Ann Arbor, MI - $188,450; Richland Co. & Associates, Defiance, Ohio - $224,773; and Damschroeder, LLC, Fremont, Ohio – No Bid. For Option B the bids are as follows: Bebout & Houg Roofing - No Bid; Quality Roofing - $207,195; Richland Co. & Associates - $229,635; and Damschroeder, LLC - $200,182. The Board of Commissioners took the bids under advisement and said bid will be awarded at a later date.

 

Jerry also met with the Commissioners to open bids for the Key Bank Reroof project. The engineer’s estimate for this project is $35,000.00. The bids received for the Key Bank, Option A (EPDM) are as follows: Bebout & Houg Roofing - $34,796; Nordmann Roofing, Toledo, Ohio - $42,480; Quality Roofing - $30,965; Richland Co. & Associates - $42,900; and Damschroeder – No Bid. For Option B (PVC) the bids are as follows: Bebout & Houg Roofing – No Bid; Nordmann Roofing - $43,500; Quality Roofing - $33,760; Richland Co. & Associates - $47,100; and Damschroeder - $48,408. The Board took these bids under advisement and upon the recommendation of Jerry Overmier, said bid will be awarded at a later date.

 

The Commissioners would like to inform those that will be utilizing or visiting the Courthouse next week that the elevator will be shut down on Wednesday, May 14, 2008 for scheduled maintenance.
