COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, MAY 10, 2010
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at
8:30 a.m. on Monday, May 10, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Otto L. Nicely, Laura Howell,
Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk, and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved and signed
various resolutions, contracts and documents.
The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar of events and discussed
upcoming meetings.
Rick Edmonds, Superintendent of Good Samaritan School, met with the
Commissioners to discuss placing the 1.9 mill replacement levy on the ballot in
November for the purpose of community mental retardation and developmental
disabilities programs and services, including Good Samaritan School Early
Intervention Services, Adult Services, Residential Services, Service Coordination,
and Transportation. After much
discussion over the past three monthly board meetings, the Defiance County
Board of Developmental Disabilities made a decision at last week's board meeting
to request that the Board of Commissioners place the 1.9 mill levy on the
November ballot as a replacement levy.
The Commissioners will take this under advisement and make a decision at
a later date.
Warren Schlatter,
Defiance County Engineer, met with the Commissioners for an update. Warren informed the Commissioners that due to
inclement weather on Saturday, the crack sealing contractor was not able to
complete sealing the parking lot behind the Commissioners’ office. Weather permitting; this will be completed
Monday night. Crack sealing and patching
work continues on roads throughout the County.
The highway crew started on a culvert replacement for a township on
Lockwood Road east of Farmer-Mark Road.
Warren also presented his 2010 accumulated revenue report. Through April 30, 2010 the accumulated
revenue was $1,361,659.16 compared to $1,347,423.05 for 2009.
Jerry Overmier,
Beilharz Architects, met with the Commissioners to discuss the Courthouse ADA
improvements project. Jerry will
continue to work on the plans.
