DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, May 11, 2006.  Chairman Thomas L. Kime called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner’s Richard Cromwell, & Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meeting and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners signed a contract with Poggemeyer Design Group for the Elliott Road utility Easement Negotiations.  Basic Services provided under the contract will consist of negotiating an easement from a property owner on the north side of Elliott Road, revise the current location sketch ad write an additional legal description for the procurement of option to purchase based on the Ohio Department of Transportation right-of-way plans for Elliott Road.

 

Administrator, Becky Wagner submitted her report to the board of Commissioners.

 

Becky reported the plan for the canoe launch site on West High has been emailed ODNR by Dennis Miller of Maumee Valley Planning.  Dennis will notify the Commissioners when the plan has been approved.  As soon as the plan is approved,

 

Bob Arend, Arend Enterprises came in to talk to the Commissioners about the Maximus Application Software Agreement for the automation of the Court of Common Pleas and Clerk of Courts computer system as well as the software support agreement.  The agreements will be sent over to the Defiance County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review and approval.  Training for the implementation of the new software will begin mid June and run through July 2006.

 

Bob also reported the training for the Manatron System Project went very well.  The implementation of the new system in part is for the Cashier System at the Treasurers Office for the purpose of better tracking of incoming funds and tax bills.

 

Wastewater Operations Director, Greg Reinhart came in to update the Commissioners.  Greg mentioned they have inspected 342 homes of which 37 had sump pumps hooked up incorrectly.  His office has re-inspected 2 buildings, pumped sludge from Middle Gordon Creek, Evansport, Auglaize Pines and Beldens Sewer Treatment Plants.

 

Greg also reported that he continues to work with the Engineer (R.D. Zande and Associates) on the Airport Sewer Project.


 

The Commissioners, County Administrator and the County Engineer visited the Winn Road and Ashwood Road Sites.  Winn Road from Precision Way to Kibble Road was requested to be vacated by the City of Defiance and Delaware Township Board of Trustees requested the vacation of Ashwood Road from the north right-of-way line of the proposed US24 project south to the Defiance County Line.  The Commissioners will hold a Public Hearing on June 1, 2006 at 11:00 in the conference room at the Board of Commissioners Office.
