The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30
a.m. on Thursday, May 13, 2010 in the Conference Room in the Commissioners
Office at 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512. Chairman James E. Harris,
Jr. called the meeting to
order. Also present were Commissioners Otto L.
Nicely and Thomas L. Kime, Laura Howell, Administrator, Stephanie Metz, Clerk,
and Lanie Miller, Deputy Clerk.
The Commissioners met in General Session and approved
and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents. The Commissioners also reviewed the calendar
of events and discussed upcoming meetings.
Laura Howell,
Administrator, met with the Commissioners to provide her weekly update and
provided an update on various County projects.
Russ Herman,
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney, met with the Commissioners to discuss various
pending legal matters.
Laura provided the
following department updates:
CSEA: Sandy Schappert reported that collections overall are down but this is
due in part to orders being modified and many shared parenting cases where the
orders are not as high as they were previously and collections coming from
unemployment.
Records Center: Rhonda Casler reported that they shipped the
final batch of original microfilms from Probate and Juvenile Court for
permanent archival storage and they are currently scanning marriage records.
Maintenance: Ron
Cereghin reported that maintenance is stripping and waxing the floors at
Evergreen Lane.
Family & Children First:
Julie Voll reported that the Justice Assistance Grant trainings are
scheduled.
Tina Hiler, Defiance County Senior Services
Director, met with the Commissioners for an update. Tina reported that the Senior Prom is on May 13th. She
would like to thank the Master Gardeners, Colorscapes, Defiance County Senior
Services Auxiliary and Advisory Board for their help with providing and handing
out lilacs at the Lilac Festival.
Defiance County Senior Services is having a HUGE Garage Sale & Bake
Sale, Silent Auction and Raffle at The Northtowne Mall on Friday, May 14th
and Saturday, May 15th from 10 am to 9 pm (items will be regular price) and on
Sunday, May 16th from Noon to 6 pm (“let’s make a deal”). In honor of Senior Citizen’s Month, The
Northtowne Mall has donated an entire store, across from the Mall’s Community
Room, for the Senior Services’ use.
Proceeds from this sale will go toward the renovation project.
Cecilia Parsons,
Defiance County Recorder, recently provided her monthly report. Cecilia reported that during the month of April, 2010, the total instruments filed were as
followed: 128 deeds, 160 mortgages, 139
releases, 8 liens, 2 power of attorneys, 3 plats and 1 lease. She reported $22,860.50 in total receipts of
which $11,057.00 went to the Housing Trust Fund and $10,107.50 went to the
General Fund.
