COMMISSIONERS
MONDAY, MAY 15, 2006
The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session
at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance
County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio
43512 on Monday, May 15,
2006. Co-Chairman Richard Cromwell called
the meeting to order. Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely,
County Administrator Becky Wagner,
Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk
Joanne Goerlitz.
General Session – The Commissioners
were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval. Commissioners also reviewed agenda items,
discussed upcoming meeting and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.
The Commissioners continued
discussion on the expansion of the walking trail at Defiance County East. The Commissioners spoke briefly to the
Maintenance Supervisor, Ron Cereghin
about going out and looking at the proposed area of expansion to see if he felt
his staff would be capable of constructing the path. Ron will take a look at
the area along with the Commissioners and the Operations Manager to make a
decision as to how this project could be best completed.
Defiance County Engineer, Warren Schlatter opened bids for the 2006 Issue II
Paving of Various Roads contract.
Warren received one bid from Gerken Paving, Napoleon, OH in
the amount of $467,822.35. The
Commissioners will take the bid under advisement and award at a later date.
Warren mentioned this project involves 7.87 miles of Adams Ridge Road. Warren
asked when the paving would begin, he stated when the award and contract are
signed and the weather clears up, the job can begin. Warren
will make a better determination at a later date.
Warren also mentioned other road work within Defiance County. Although Defiance - Henry Co Line Road is now open, the road
crew continues to finish up the project.
Warren also mentioned he received word from Ohio Department
of Transportation that there will be a public hearing o May 25th,
2006 from 5:30 -7:00 p.m at the Defiance High School Gymnasium. The purposed of the meeting will be to
discuss the 2 remaining feasible alternatives to the Rail Grade separation
program. They are Hire Road
and Florence Avenue. The goal is to gather comments from the
public and select a preferred alternative.
Following the selection of a preferred alternative, the project will be
put on hold until additional funding can be found to fund the remaining
engineering.
Defiance County Job & Family Services Director,
Dennis McKay came in with Tinora High School Sophomore Justin Wilson to present
an award on behalf of the Defiance county Commissioners and the Department of
Job and Family Services for recognition of the logo he designed to represent
the Defiance County Job and Family Services Mission Statement. Justin’s logo was awarded first place and
will be used by they DCJFS. Dennis McKay
presented other awards to Ashley Imber, Jesse Elders, Justin Snyder and
Jon Bowers, all students from Tinora High
School.
