OPENING:    

 

The regular meeting of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners was called to order at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, May 16, 2002, in the Commissioner’s Conference Room, 500 Court Street, Defiance, Ohio  43512 by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.

A.        APPROVAL OF MINUTES

 

The minutes of the May 13, 2002 meeting were reviewed and a correction was noted.  The corrected minutes will be resubmitted for review at the next meeting. 

 

B.        RESOLUTIONS

C.                OPEN ISSUES/DISCUSSION

 

Tim Houck, Landfill Manager, submitted his April, 2002 District Fee Pay-In Report on behalf of the Four County Solid Waste District.  In-district waste received was 5,358.06 tons; out-of-district waste collected was 185.91 tons and out-of-state waste received totaled 47.30 tons.  Total fees due to the District for the month of April total $5,824.48.

 

 

 

Gaylon Davis, Defiance County Engineer, submitted information noting that the Vegetation Control Program will begin in Defiance County along all county roads east of Evansport Road, east of Canal Road and on Tiffin and Adams Township roads beginning Thursday, May 16. 

 

D.        APPOINTMENTS

 

8:30 a.m.        General Session

 

9:40 a.m.        Commissioners briefly reviewed figures regarding the County’s health insurance and discussed how the new third party administrator was handling employee claims.   Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented a portion of her report at this time.  She reviewed proposals for the replacement of a section of sidewalk by Building A at the Island Park Complex.  The following proposals were submitted:

 

McDonald’s Construction                 $4,250.00

DCS Construction                             $3,810.00

Sines Excavating                              $2,580.00

 

The price includes labor, material and equipment to remove the existing concrete sidewalk and install a new combination of curb/sidewalk.  Ms. Wagner was given approval to notify Sines Excavating that their proposal was accepted. 

 

She noted that a seasonal employee, currently working at the Landfill, would now be working under the Maintenance Supervisor, Marge McCurdy, mowing.  The remainder of her report will be reviewed at a later date.  

 

10:20 a.m.      Commissioners left at this time to attend the open house for the Hicksville Community Service Center, 104 North Main – their new location.  During the open house, Commissioners presented a proclamation to Barbara Donley, Service Center Director, thanking her for the Center’s commitment, service and dedication to the community and residents of Defiance County.
