DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio 43512 on Thursday, May 18, 2006.  Co-Chairman Richard Cromwell called the meeting to order.   Also present were Commissioner Otto Nicely, County Administrator Becky Wagner, Clerk Lyla Gurwell, and Deputy Clerk Joanne Goerlitz.

 

General Session – The Commissioners were presented with various resolutions and documents for approval.  Commissioners also reviewed agenda items, discussed upcoming meetings and reviewed and updated the calendar of events.

 

The Commissioners discussed the request for the Vacation of Winn Road.  The road was viewed by the Commissioners on May 11, 2006.  The County Engineer is suggesting holding up the Public Hearing that has been scheduled for June 1, 2006.  The Board is reviewing the need to relocate utilities and will make a decision prior to vacating the road.   The Commissioners will have further discussion with the County Engineer.

 

The Board approved the award for the 2006 Issue II Paving of Various Roads to Gerken Paving.  The bid was $467,822.35. 

 

Becky Wagner, Defiance County Administrator presented information to the Board of Commissioners regarding an extension of the walking path at the Defiance County East   She had met with Bruce Clevenger and Ron Cereghin to view the site and put together recommendations to present to the Board for the best  procedure to install the trail and protect the natural environment.

 

Becky also advised that she authorized Jerry Overmier from Beilharz Architects to proceed with the descriptions and renderings of the building options for the courthouse presentations.  The Commissioners will take a look at the pictures when complete and use them for future meetings.

 

Becky advised Commissioners that Dennis McKay, Director of Job & Family Services will be a member on the committee in Columbus to discuss Title XX funds which will provide a voice for Defiance County.  The state is looking at the possibility of changing the formula for title XX which could have an impact on Defiance County.

 

Randy Vogel, Defiance County Dog Warden submitted his report for the month of April.

 

Randy reported he investigated 140 complaints, took 33 dogs to the shelter, made 294 personal contacts, issued 21 warnings and issued 30 citations.

 

Randy also mentioned 9 dog licenses were sold at the Hicksville Police Department, 38 at the shelter, and 96 at the Auditors office.  Randy also reported 62 dog licenses were sold with penalties.

 

The miles driven for the month of April were 2,441 and 1,400 pounds of animals were taken to the landfill.
