DEFIANCE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS

THURSDAY, MAY 19, 2005

 

The Board of Defiance County Commissioners met in regular session at 8:30 a.m. in the Conference Room of the Board of Defiance County Commissioners, 500 Court Street, Suite A, Defiance, Ohio  43512 on Thursday, May 19, 2005.  The meeting was called to order by Chairman Otto L. Nicely.  Also present were Commissioners Thomas L. Kime and Richard L. Cromwell; Becky Wagner, Administrator; and Joan Brown, Deputy Clerk. 

 

 

8:30 a.m.      General Session      Commissioners approved and signed various resolutions, contracts and documents, approved several travel requests, reviewed the agenda items and the calendar of events, discussed upcoming meetings and updated information for the calendar of events.

 

The Board received notification from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources that Defiance County has been selected to receive grant funding to assist in developing two canoe landings, one to be located on West High Street near the river bridge and the second to be located on Schick Road. 

 

9:30 a.m.      Becky Wagner, County Administrator, presented the following report :

 

  • Reviewed various utility bills and cost allocations.   
  • Discussed various safety trainings that the safety committee will be implementing.   
  • Informed the Board of the CCAO (County Commissioners Association of Ohio) Workers Comp Group Rating Annual meeting scheduled for Friday, June 17th in Hilliard, OH. 

 

 

10:30 a.m.    Ron Cereghin, Maintenance Supervisor, was scheduled to meet with the Board at this time but cancelled due to a conflict.  

 

 

11:00 a.m.    Tim Houck, Landfill Director, and Dick Sargeant, Landfill attorney, met with the Board to review results of hydrogeological testing being done for the landfill expansion.   Mr. Sargeant reported that they are currently six months ahead of schedule in meeting requirements by the OEPA to receive permits for the expansion.
